Viral: An 80-year-old Karnataka woman has donated Rs 1 lakh she earned via begging to a temple. Mangaluru: An 80-year-old woman from Karnataka has donated Rs 1 lakh she earned via begging for “annadana” to a temple.

Ashwathamma, from Kanchigoodu village in Gangolli of Udupi district, has been begging close to temples throughout fairs for the ultimate 18 years.

The aged woman donated the cash at Sri Kshethra Rajarajeshwari Temple in Polali in Bantwal taluk.

This is not the first time that Ashwathamma has donated to a temple. Earlier, she donated Rs 1 lakh to Sri Gurunarsimha Temple in Saligram and Rs 1.5 lakh to Ayyappa devotees at Polali Sri Akhileshwara Temple. She additionally presented an “annadana” at a temple in Gangolli. She has additionally donated to orphanages in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada.

She has presented “annadana” to more than one lakh devotees.

Ashwathamma was pressured to beg after her husband’s death 18 years in the past.

She makes use of just a small section of her income for her private bills and deposits the relaxation of the cash in a financial institution to donate it.

“It was a goodwill gesture that she did not use the cash she earned via begging to collect wealth,” P Jayamma, govt officer at Shri Kshethra Rajarajeshwari Temple, Polali, informed TOI.

Ashwathamma mentioned that she was returning the cash that the society presented to her. “My handiest prayer is that no one will have to stay hungry,” she mentioned.
