In this article, we will read about “Don Lucy Death, Obituary – Cause of Death

What Happened to Don Lucy, Obituary

“Don Lucy, a cherished member of the News 4 This Morning and News 4 Great Day teams, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday,” Laura Hettiger said.

“When I walked into KMOV every morning, Don was the first person I saw. He’d be working on the show as a director for N4TM when I walked by the control room to check in with the newsroom. Every morning, I’d stroll by the control room window and wave to Don and our other director, Tim, who was a dear friend of Don’s. Don’s honest, kind smile in the photo is the same genuine, kind smile he would offer me every morning at 3:10.

“In May, the Illinois native marked his 41st year as a KMOV employee. His father started at Channel 4 just four days after KMOV went on the air, so broadcasting was in his blood. Don’s father retired in 1980, and he began working on May 11th, 1981. No current KMOV employee can recall a time when Don was not a coworker.

“Despite being a staple in the KMOV building, Don had a wide range of interests. He was a pilot and aviation enthusiast who owned his own plane, which he named “Air Lucy.” He was a huge fan of automobiles, especially antiques. He showed me images of a 1957 Chevrolet he owned just last week, and he teased me about how little I understood about cars.

“He also enjoyed working. He worked two full-time jobs for years, first at KMOV in the early mornings or during the day, then as the live broadcast director for Cardinals and Blues games. I’ll never know how he managed those crazy schedules with such a good attitude.”

“Don was a people person. He remembered birthdays and anniversaries, and he frequently provided gift cards to his coworkers (Dairy Queen for me, Texas Roadhouse for others), and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He volunteered to fly me back and forth to Flora, my hometown, numerous times, particularly while my grandmother was ill. Don was a terrific role model for his peers, interns, and even our Great Day visitors. He was the type of person who actually cared about your response when he inquired how you were doing.

“However, Don’s greatest love was for his family. Don’s wife was diagnosed with cancer and died before I started at KMOV. He informed me about her during our ten years of working together. Because Don was such a wonderful person, I knew she was a special women. Don couldn’t go a day without mentioning his “baby,” his adored son, Donnie.

“Donnie, like his father, enjoys flying and works as a commercial airline pilot in California. Don would constantly keep track of his son’s flights, no matter what time of day it was. He’d tell me about his son’s landings, prospects, and the great life he was leading in California. The phrase “proud father” does not begin to express Don’s feelings for Donnie.

“I was taken aback when I got the news on Tuesday that Don had passed away. He was so alive, so energetic, so thrilled, so cheerful, so kind–he was just so Don just four days earlier when he was last at KMOV. I had a smile on my face as I stood in my living room following that call, shivering and crying at the news.

“I know Don is now back with his wife, catching her up on all that has happened since they were together.” I also know Donnie not only has two guardian angels, but he also has the best co-pilot on every flight he takes in the future. Please remember Don’s son in your prayers and thoughts.

“Thank you, Don, for being my friend.” Thank you for teaching me how to work hard, live life to the fullest, and be someone who actually cares about others. I miss you, and knowing you made me a better person.”

Many people will miss him greatly.
