Ernie Sigmon was the man who went missing while fishing on December 29, 2021. After a six-month search, his body was discovered today.

On Monday, June 20, 2022, at 11:25 a.m., police, fire, and rescue officials raced to Cook Point in Dorchester County, MD, for a water rescue.

An off-duty Oxford firefighter on his private yacht reported to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources that he had located a deceased male victim in the sea around Cook Point, roughly 5 miles from the Oxford Station.

Fire and rescue workers responding to the water rescue mission were set to work before they arrived.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police retrieved Sigmon from the water.

On Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at 7:07 p.m., fire and rescue authorities responded to the 40000 block of Waterview Drive in Mechanicsville for a reported overdue boater.

A water rescue effort has been requested by the Department of Natural Resources for an overdue boat that was last heard from at 3:12 p.m. on December 29, 2021.

Ernie Sigmon, 44, is a white man with brown hair and hazel eyes who wears a black knit cap, a black heated under armor jacket, pants, and green boots.

He departed from the 40300 block of Waterview Drive in the Plum Point area of Prince Frederick around 1:00 p.m. aboard a gray and white 2020 Open Sportsman 25ft yacht.

Around 7:35 p.m., Calvert County was requested to start a water rescue mission after incident command reported Sigmon’s cell phone was pinging about a mile off Dares Beach. Calvert County firemen recovered the missing watercraft at 8:12 p.m., with no one on board. Sigmon’s cellphone was recovered on board the ship.
