Christchurch Football Club Development Manager Mike O’Donovan is Dead,

“After learning of Mike’s demise this morning, the Christchurch Football Club wishes to express its heartfelt sympathies to Lorna and the O’Donovan family,” the club said.

“From 2008 until his retirement in 2018, Donny was the Club’s Rugby Development Manager. Many players, coaches, and management owe their success to his guidance and mentoring.

“Mike didn’t think retirement was the best option for him. He has volunteered with the Linwood RFC and, more recently, the Marist Albion RFC because of his passion for rugby and his family. Without you, Mike, Saturdays won’t be the same.”

In the wake of his death, friends, coworkers, officials, and veterans have sent condolences and tributes to his family. Everyone will miss him a great deal.
