“Twenty-Five, Twenty-One” tells the story of first love, dreams, ambition and youth growth in the midst of financial crisis. The story begins when a young girl stops playing ballet and runs away to her grandmother’s house.

There, she finds her mother’s diary written in 1998, when her mother was only 18 years old. The girl begins to dig into the story of her mother’s youth and discovers unknown things about her mother.

After that, the drama focuses on the romantic lives of the five main characters, with the main focus on Na Hee Do and Baek Yi Jin. At the beginning of the drama, Baek Yi Jin moved in on his own and took on various part-time jobs after his family went bankrupt. During that moment, he met Na Hee Do on several occasions and they eventually developed a friendship.

However viewers have mixed feelings about their age difference. Currently, Hee Do is 18 years old and Yi Jin is 22 years old. Considering the four year age difference and the fact that he is still a high school student, some netizens were displeased and asked, “Why do grown men choose to spend their free time with a teenager?”.

Hee Do is even surprised to find out Baek Yi Jin’s age because he is older than he imagined. Because according to him, Baek Yi Jin is only two years older than him.

One netizen said, “Maybe I’m the only one who doesn’t mind if they’re not together. I haven’t been able to see them romantically because of their age difference at the start.” Another netizen added, “It would be really interesting if they were just platonic soulmates like in ‘My Mister’, considering the age difference and he’s still small.”

Of course in many places, 18 years is considered the legal age, so their relationship will not be protested by viewers. However, given the difference between Korean and international ages, it raises more questions.

Since Koreans consider a person’s time in the womb to be a measure of age, they are always about a year or two older than their supposed age. So, it’s highly likely that Na Hee Do is only 16 or 17 years old. If so, viewers might be really worried.

Amid these worries, viewers focused on the character Go Yu Rim (Bona WJSN / Cosmic Girls) who called Baek Yi Jin his “first love”. Hee Do even asks if they are dating after seeing them spend time together.

When Hee Do asks that, Yi Jin answers carefully. He explained that there was nothing between them, and that students should date fellow students, just as adults should date adults.

Those words reassure viewers that nothing will happen between Hee Do and Yi Jin in the beginning of their relationship. But at the end of episode 4, the characters seem to start developing feelings for each other.

Amid criticism of the possible romance between a high school student and an adult male, some viewers are convinced that things are still platonic. Many believe that the characters will respect the age difference during this period of time, but their feelings will change as they get older.

One netizen commented, “People say that they are uncomfortable with their age difference, but the storyline doesn’t involve any romance.” Another netizen added, “It’s funny seeing the age difference here compared to real life.”

That’s why pro viewers hope that netizens don’t look for trouble and wait patiently to see the continuation of their story in this drama. Moreover, four years is not a big difference in the relationship of a man and a woman.
